SUMMARY:Webinar for Parents: "How Can I Help My Kids Stay Safe Online?"
DESCRIPTION:The Clearpoint Home & School Association has partnered with Media Smarts\, a Canadian not-for-profit organization for digital and media literacy\, to offer a free online webinar to give Clearpoint parents tips on managing kids’ screen time\, how to keep your kids safe online\, and the importance of setting family internet rules. We hope you can join us for this presentation and discussion! \n\n\n\nKids today are going online at younger ages – which means that parents have to get involved in their digital lives much sooner than they used to. Although you may sometimes feel out of your depth when it comes to technology\, as a parent you have an important role to play in helping your kids safely navigate the online spaces and activities they enjoy. The Explore Digital Parenting workshop offered by MediaSmarts looks at the various activities kids love to do online and offers tips and strategies for everything from Facebook privacy settings\, online shopping\, cyberbullying\, to protecting your computer from viruses. \n\n\n\nAbout the Speaker:Matthew Johnson is the Director of Education for MediaSmarts\, Canada’s centre for digital and media literacy. He is the author of many MediaSmarts lessons and parent resources used in Canadian schools\, and a co-author of the Canadian Pediatric Society’s screen-time guidelines. He has served on expert panels and been featured in The Globe and Mail\, The Wall Street Journal\, BBC\, CBC’s The National\, and more. \n\n\n\nImportant: This year’s session will be built around your questions! We encourage you to share the concerns that matter most to you. All submissions are completely anonymous\, and no personal information will be collected. \n\n\n\nWe’ll group the questions into themes so Matthew can cover as many as possible during his presentation.
